At the center of our faith is the forgiveness of sins as a precious gift from God, apart from human works and merits. In spite of our unwillingness and inability to follow God and his word, God does not condemn us. Rather he forgives us. Even though we don’t deserve his forgiveness, God forgives us freely, apart from our works and efforts. The good news of our faith is that God is gracious to us. He sent his son to bear this Word to us, and to all who have faith in him. Through Jesus, God forgives our sins, and gives us newness of life. In the language of the Apostle Paul, we are “justified by grace through faith in Christ.” This is not something we have earned or even deserve, rather it is God’s gift to those who believe.
