Through the preaching of his Word, in the waters of Baptism, and in Holy Communion, the risen Christ continues to make his presence known among us. Whenever Christians gather for worship, the living Christ is present. As Christ is proclaimed in scripture and sermon, he speaks to us his Word of judgment and grace. We gratefully remember our Baptism, for in the water and through his Word, God brings us into the Christian church and fills us with his Spirit. We celebrate Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper of bread and wine in which the living Christ gives his body and for our salvation and newness of life. Through these, as “means of grace,” the risen Christ comes to us and lives among us as our Savior and Lord.
