Tuck into your Heart Bible Verses for This Week

For July 30, 8th Sunday in Pentecost:

Tuck in Your Heart Bible Verses

Deuteronomy 7:9   Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.

Romans 8:28  And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose

Romans 8:31  If God is for us, who can be against us?

Roman 8:38-39  For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Matthew 13:23    As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it.

Bible Study with Pastor Milarch this month:

Continuing in August, each Sunday Pastor Milarch will be leading a Bible study on the book of Romans. Martin Luther called Romans “the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel.” St. Paul wrote Romans to summarize the gospel he preached. He had never met them, so Romans is his letter of introduction. He probably wrote the letter during his stay in Corinth (Greece) around 57 AD (see Acts 20.2-3). Paul was on his way to Jerusalem to deliver the money he collected from the Gentile churches to relieve the famine that existed in Judea. He planned to sail to Spain to continue his missionary work, but he was going to visit the churches in Rome first. He wanted to meet them and to enlist their support for the mission to Spain. The church in Rome was comprised of both Gentiles and Jews, and there was some conflict between them, which Paul addresses. The theme of Romans is the gospel. He states this theme in Romans 1.16-17:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “The one who is righteous will live by faith.”
A simple outline of Romans looks like this:
1. The Letter Opening (1.1-17)
2. The Heart of the Gospel: Justification by Faith (1.18 – 4.25)
3. The Assurance of the Gospel: The Hope of Salvation (5.1 – 8.39)
4. Taking or Leaving the Gospel (9.1 – 11.36)
5. The Transforming Power of the Gospel: Christian Conduct (12.1 – 15.13)
6. The Letter Closing (15.14 – 16.27)
Please plan to stay after worship on Sunday for coffee and fellowship, and then for the Bible study. We’ll be done by 11:00. (You could read Romans 1 in preparation for this week’s study.)
